Of all the characters that I never thought I would like and ended up liking, Voight is definitely the most surprising.

Loved this episode – it was nice to see Voight vulnerable.  Loved the team for rallying around him.  It was an interesting case and so glad that Olive/Justin have a chance for their happy ever after.
Also, the little girl dressing up as  a policeman to face down her sister’s bullies <3.

The only thing I’m not keen on is Dawson’s storyline with the rich dodgy guy and his sexy wife.

AVeryMarriedChristmas-LARGEA Very Married Christmas Synopsis:

Cookbook author Marley Chambers can’t think of a more festive way to spend Christmas than at a friend’s holiday wedding in her hometown of Magnolia Bay. If only her soon-to-be ex-husband, all-star pitcher, Beckett “Beck” Chambers wasn’t bringing his new girlfriend—and if only he wasn’t still the sexiest man to ever walk out onto the mound…

Beck never wanted the chaotic life of a sport star—especially not at the cost of his marriage to the only woman he’s ever truly loved. But his career is a runaway train—and he’s afraid it’s too late to hit the brakes.

But when a mix-up leaves Beck and Marley stranded together for Christmas Eve on the barrier island where Beck proposed years before, old memories burn bright—and sparks fly hotter than a bonfire on the beach.

Could the magic of the season bring the gift of a second chance, just in time for Christmas?

Chapter 1

The tinsel-and-holly-draped lobby of the Bay Breezes Inn looked as if Mrs. Claus herself had decorated it, but the only thing Marley Chambers could see when she stepped through the frosted glass doors was her soon-to-be-ex-husband at the front desk—and the willowy brunette pressed against him.

Her heart twisted like a candy cane.

“I can’t believe he actually brought her,” Gina Martin said, giving her straight black bob an indignant toss.

Marley appreciated her best friend’s loyalty, but she was determined not to let it get to her that Beck had chosen the wedding of their high school friends to debut his new girlfriend.

“We’re separated, Gee, remember?” Marley said, hitching her purse higher up on her shoulder. “He can bring whoever he wants. I don’t care.”

Gina wrinkled her lips dubiously. “If you don’t care, then why are we stalling behind this Christmas tree waiting for them to clear the desk so we can sign in?”

“We’re not stalling—we’re simply soaking up the décor,” Marley said, giving the closest fir bough an appreciative tweak before it snagged on her loose, blond ponytail.

“Do you know Jezebel’s name?”

Marley did—but only because she read the tabloids like every other internet-addicted American who foolishly cared about the dating lives of celebrities and sports stars. In her case, she had a good excuse: up until a year ago, she and Beckett “Beck” Chambers had been headed toward their tenth anniversary so it behooved her—for legal purposes, mind you—to know who he was taking up with before the ink was even set on their divorce papers.

“Her name’s Denise Weathers,” Marley answered finally.

Gina snickered. “I’m betting that name is as fake as her perfect boobs.”

Marley sighed, shifting to avoid a mouthful of fir needles. “If this is your way of helping get me out from behind this tree,” she whispered, “it’s not working.”

“I’m sorry but I still think it’s gross that he brought her here, when he knows these are all your friends, too—your hometown, for God’s sake! The place where you and he grew up and fell in love. It’s just wrong.”

What could Marley say? She’d felt the same way when she’d learned from Erin, the bride-to-be, that Beck was bringing a date to Erin and Kyle’s holiday wedding. Surely Marley was bringing one too, Erin had asked. Marley had bluffed, not yet ready to admit that—as much as she wanted to bring a date—she had a better chance of being eaten by a shark. On land.

“So has Beck seen you yet?” Gina asked.

“No,” said Marley, “and I’m hoping he won’t.”

“Marley, it’s a wedding. I’m fairly certain they expect all the guests to be at the church at the same time.”

Unfortunately, Marley thought, catching another glimpse of her estranged husband and his nubile girlfriend cuddling up against each other like giddy teenagers. But when Beck’s hand drifted down the woman’s skinny body to rest on her rear, the sight was so unsettling that Marley darted back and collided with a bellhop’s filled cart, sending a tower of luggage tumbling to the floor, the crash loud enough to make every head in the lobby swerve her way.

Including Beck’s.

Q & A with … @JillShalvis

Today I am delighted to be hosting a Q&A with Jill Shalvis in honour of her new release One In A Million, the final book in the much-loved Lucky Harbor series.

Q. How did you first get the idea for the Lucky Harbor series?

A. When I started this series about three estranged sisters who get stuck together running a beach resort, I decided I was out of my mind. I don’t have sisters. I have a brother, and we like each other just fine. Then at the dinner table that very night, my three teenage heathens started bickering and fighting, and I just stared at them in awe and wonder.
I had my fodder! “Keep fighting,” I told them — much to their utter shock, since I’ve spent the past fifteen years begging them to get along.
After that night, it was a piece of cake to write the sisters. So then all that I had left to do was find the three sexy guys who could handle them.
It just so happened that, at the time, my neighbor was having an addition put on her house. For six glorious weeks, there were a bunch of guys hanging off the roof and the walls, in perfect line of sight of my office.
Which is really my deck. It’s a wonder I got any work done at all.

Q. How do you decide what to name the characters in your book?JillShalvis

A. I collect good names as I hear them and keep them in a file. When I start a new book, I flip through the saved names until I find one that suits me at the time.

Q. If you had to choose just one, who is your favourite couple out of the 12 Lucky Harbor couples?

A. Definitely Sawyer and Chloe from HEAD OVER HEELS. Wait, no. It’s Josh and Grace from FOREVER AND A DAY. No, wait. It’s Ben and Aubrey from ONCE IN A LIFETIME. No wait!! It’s Callie and Tanner from ONE IN A MILLION… 🙂

Q. What’s your favourite trope to write?

A. reunited lovers! Or in Callie and Tanner’s case, a crush turned love. 🙂

Q. As your ‘Lucky Harbor’ series is now coming to an end, do you know what your next series will be about?

A. I do. 🙂

Indecent Proposal by @MollyOKwrites Book Tour

“I’m a bartender, Harry. I am an expert on lots of things.” She chucked the mint stem into the trash under the bar. “Lay your burdens down, my friend.”
“It’s my sister. She’s in trouble.”
“Ah, oddly enough, this is a subject in which I have plenty of experience.”
“You have a sister who gets in trouble?”
“I am the sister who gets in trouble.” Something buzzed up the back of her neck. A warning to shut her mouth and walk on, perhaps send Lindsey over. But she ignored it, despite having gotten so much better at heeding those internal warnings. She grabbed more mint just so she’d have something to do with her hands.
“So, is she in big trouble or little trouble? Like if one is dating a jerk and ten is living on the streets, where does she fall?”
“She isn’t even on that spectrum.” Something in his voice made her realize the jokes were soon to be offensive. That there was no part of this he was going to find funny. And funny was a huge part of her armor. And without her armor she was just vulnerable and sympathetic – two things that had gotten her in more than her fair share of trouble.
Leave, she thought, switch sides with Lindsey. Forget about Sad Ken Doll.
But that was impossible. His anger and grief were magnetic.
            She put down the mint.
“I’m so sorry, Harry,” she told him sincerely.
“It’s fine.” His smile revealed the dimple and for a moment she was distracted enough not to realize he was lying.  But she had been a bartender for over a decade and she could smell a lie a mile away. And whatever the situation was with his sister – it was far from fine.
“That’s what you’ve been working on for the last few days. With the phones? Trying to help your sister?”
“I couldn’t stare at the walls of my room anymore. All day, every day trying-“
He sighed, pushed away the plate with the half-eaten chicken on it. For a moment Ryan thought he was going to walk out, he was coiled, poised to just vanish.
And that would be for the best, she thought. For her. Maybe for him. Because the last thing he probably needed was a sister in trouble and a hangover in the morning. And the last thing she needed was this compassion, this empathy and curiosity, the rusted guts of her desire – making her decisions for her.
But then he relaxed back into his chair. Back into the moment with her.
She exhaled the breath she hadn’t totally realized she’d been holding.
“Not that it has done much good. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to help her.”
There was an invisible barrier down the middle of the bar. This one and every other upscale bar in the five boroughs. The barrier was well-documented in The Indigo Bar employee handbook, but also in her own rule book; no fraternizing with the drinkers.  A lesson she’d learned twice the hard-way.
But she shoved her fist right through that barrier and put her hand over his. To her surprise he grabbed her fingers, held them tight in his like a lifeline he was terribly in need of.
“She’s…she’s my baby sister. And she hasn’t needed anything from me in so long and now…now that she does, now that she really needs me, I might not be able to help her. It’s killing me.”

Chicago Fire: 3×03 – Just Drive The Truck

The best thing about this show is Shay and since they killed her off in the premiere, I did wonder if I could ever enjoy this show again and how long I would keep watching but I have to say that this episode was really good.

I liked the action side with the fire truck crash and then having to deal with the fallout, especially poor Cruz.  Thankfully, they didn’t drag out the resolution over several episodes. Then there’s Mills and his story arc.  I just knew he was going to fill Dawson’s slot as a paramedic and it will be interesting to see how he and Dawson get on in their new roles.

For Olivia Bentley, Lucky Harbor is more than the town where she runs her new vintage shop. It’s the place where folks are friendly to strangers-and nobody knows her real name. Olivia does a good job of keeping her past buried, not getting too cozy with anyone . . . until she sees a man drowning. Suddenly she’s rushing into the surf, getting up close and personal with the hottest guy she’s ever laid hands on.

Charter boat captain Cole Donovan has no problem with a gorgeous woman throwing her arms around his neck in an effort to “save” him. In fact, he’d like to spend a lot more time skin-to-skin with Olivia. He’s just not expecting that real trouble is about to come her way. Will it bring her deeper into Cole’s heart, or will it be the end of Olivia’s days in little Lucky Harbor?

“Dry off,” Cole said, and stepped back from Olivia.

She nodded but didn’t move.

“Olivia?” he asked.

Her face was a mask of misery. “Mmmy arms won’t wwwork.”

Shit. He quickly and gently pushed her back down to the bench, sat at her side, and began to pile blankets over the top of them both.

“Wwhat are you ddoing?”

“Sharing my body heat,” he said.

“I cccan’t feel any hhheat.”

“You will.” Beneath the blankets, he reached for the towel she still had wrapped around her. “Don’t freak,” he warned. “I’m just going to remove the wet towel and pull you into me.”

She opened her mouth, but using her sluggishness to his benefit, Cole quickly stripped the towel away from her, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her into him as two things happened simultaneously. One, she squeaked. Probably trying to formulate her next threat.

And two—holy shit—he realized she was completely, totally, one hundred percent naked beneath the layer of blankets.

And pissed. “Yyyour pants!” she gasped. “Thththey’re cccold!”

“Sorry, but I’m trying to do the right thing here,” he said through clenched teeth. Jesus. He couldn’t see a thing below her neck, but he could sure as hell feel her. His hands were on her hip and low on her back, respectively, not touching anything he shouldn’t be, but damn she was soft, and at the feel of her, his brain clicked off. Just completely flatlined.
