One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis Book Tour

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Heartbreaker Bay with a fun and festive holiday novella! ONE SNOWY NIGHT is out now! Grab your copy for just $0.99 today!

It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

Christmas Eve had the nerve to show up just like it did every year: way too quickly and with ridiculous fanfare.

The nerve.

Rory Andrews stood in the courtyard of the Pacific Pier Building in San Francisco, surrounded by sparkly holiday lights and enough garlands to give the place its own ozone, and told herself things could be worse.

She just wasn’t sure how.

It was the unknown, she decided. Because this year, unlike the past six, she’d be spending Christmas with her family, a thought that caused a swarm of butterflies to take flight in her belly.

Not an uncommon feeling since she’d turned twenty-three a few months back and decided it was time to become a person she could be proud of if it killed her. And given the guy leaning against one of the lamp poles clearly waiting for her, arms crossed, frown in place, it just might.

Max Stranton. At his side sat Carl, his huge, eternally hungry, adorable Doberman.

“No,” she said, not to Carl but to Carl’s owner. Who was not lovable. “No way.”

As always when their gazes locked, Max’s was a disconcerting mix of heat and…something else that she couldn’t quite figure out, as he was good at hiding when he wanted to be. She never quite knew how to take the heat because it seemed reluctant. He was attracted to her but didn’t want to be.

Ditto. He made her knees wobble. And also a couple of other inner reactions that shouldn’t be happening in public.

“Merry Christmas to you too, Rory,” he said, and damn. It wasn’t just his eyes. His voice was rough and sexy, and for that matter, so was the rest of him.

He worked for an investigations and security firm in the building. Basically he and the rest of his team were fixers and finders for hire. To say that Max was good at his job was an understatement. He stood there looking like sex on a stick with a duffle bag slung over a broad shoulder, his dark hair two weeks past needing a cut, and the icy wind of an incoming storm plastering his clothes to a body that could be registered as a lethal weapon.

“What are you doing here?” she asked calmly even if her heart was anything but, pounding all the way up to her throat and ears because she knew. She knew exactly why he was here. “I don’t need a ride home.”

A flash of wry humor slid in with all that sizzling heat. “Because you’d rather take two buses and a train than get into my truck with me?” he asked.

Well yes, actually.

Accidentally on Purpose (Heartbreaker Bay #3) by @JillShalvis

Accidentally on Purpose (Heartbreaker Bay, #3)ARC received from: Edelweiss

Rating: 4*

Chemistry: Simmering

One-Sentence Summary: Elle’s past comes back to haunt her and Archer

Review: Archer/Elle’s story is the one I’ve most been looking forward to in this series but I have to say that it didn’t play out quite how I thought it would.

Given their tension in previous books, I thought Shalvis would focus on that and the repressed feelings. As it turns out Archer and Elle didn’t wait long to act on their feelings and the majority of the story is concentrated on who is less likely to want to commit to giving their relationship a real go.jill-shalvis-archer

Archer/Elle have an interesting history together which is brought to the forefront when Elle’s sister Morgan makes an appearance. The history that Archer/Elle shares is probably the most interesting thing about their story and gives a unique foundation to their relationship.

I am hoping that other characters in this book will get a chance to have their stories told but fear that this is another trilogy-based series which comes to an end with this book. Poor Spencer!

The Trouble with Mistletoe (Heartbreaker Bay #2) by @JillShalvis

The Trouble with Mistletoe (Heartbreaker Bay, #2)“Hello?” Willa answered, sounding soft and sleepy.
“I woke you. I’m sorry.”
“Yeah,” he said. “I’ve got a problem.”
“Still?” She yawned. “Aren’t you supposed to call a doctor if that conditions persists for more than four hours?”
He froze for a beat and then laughed. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he shook his head. “Not that kind of problem.” He paused. “And I’m pretty sure there’s no guy on earth who’d actually go to a doctor for that.”
“Yet another reason why men die younger than women. What’s the problem, Keane?”
“You have her today too?”
“Yeah. My aunt had to go into a rehab facility with assisted living. While I was working, Pita went down a vent and either joined a rat compound or she’s just enjoying fucking with me like every other female I know, but I can no longer see or hear her.”
“Your aunt had to go into a home?”
Hadn’t he just said so? “Yes, and—”
“And you’re holding on to Pita for her? Indefinitely?”
“Well I was,” he said. “Now I’m pretty sure I’ve accidentally killed her.”
“I’ll be right there.”

Trope: Festive romance

Chemistry: Simmering

One-Sentence Summary: Hot guy, cute cat and lovable heroine meet under the mistletoe

Review: Is there anything more perfect than a Jill Shalvis novel which combines Christmas, cute animals and an even cuter Hero?

Probably not.jill-shalvis-keane

This book ticked all the right boxes for me from the setting, the hilarious group of friends, the festive season and all the cute animals. Keane and Willa had oodles of chemistry and the book had just the right amount of focus on their history for the readers to understand their mutual reservation about relationships without it taking over the whole story.

Added bonus shipping material came in the form of Archer and Elle whose story I absolutely cannot wait to get my paws on.

Nobody But You (Cedar Ridge #3) by @JillShalvis

Nobody But You (Cedar Ridge, #3)ARC received from: Netgalley

Rating: 2.5*

Chemistry: Low Boil

One-Sentence Summary: The long-lost Kincaid brother falls in love with a woman on a boat

Review: Oh Jill Shalvis, please can we go back to the wonderful days of Lucky Harbor and Wilder and Animal Magnetism?

This series has never managed to win me over and this book just confirmed my feelings that it felt this series was rushed and written in a hurry.

I was intrigued by Jacob’s story from the mentions of him we got in previous books but that got overshadowed by the major case of “insta-love” between him and Sophie. C’mon guys you JUST MET and Sophie you have ex-husband issues.

Moving on from the romance, there was still the family aspect of theMissing Lily book I could enjoy …. except given that this book is so much about family, WHERE THE HELL IS LILY? I mean Aidan barely gets a look in but LILY ISN’T MENTIONED AT ALL. Seriously.

And then the Mitch/Jenna seems to have come out of nowhere and has apparently been chugging along slowly in the background and now I’m really confused as to whether Jenna is even going to get her own book or not (?!).

Throw in the fact that Sophie’s jackass ex, Lucas, has a 180 degree personalty makeover at the end and I am left wondering where is the Jill Shalvis magic that I know and love.

I am really looking forward to her new series if only with the hope that we return to the awesome writing of yesteryear.

Second Chance Summer by @JillShalvis

Second Chance Summer (Cedar Ridge, #1)Rating: 2.5-3*

Cover: Yay

Trope: I want to say reconciliation romance but can it really be that when they weren’t together in the first place?!

Chemistry Rating: Damp squid

Review: This is one of those “I’m a massive fan of the author BUT …” reviews so hang on tight.

I am a massive fan of Jill Shalvis but what was this?

I know getting a first book in a new series to be of a high standard is tricky when you’ve got to introduce all these new main characters, recurring secondary characters, the setting, laying the groundwork for future books and romances etc. but this really didn’t work for me.

The main reason it didn’t work for me was not really any of the above but the fact that we were told about the depth of Aidan’s feelings for Lily right from the start. Now if they were childhood sweethearts and actually had a relationship way back when, I can believe that he spent the following years and years thinking of her and pining for her but actually what happened between them is one kiss. Yes one kiss.

Then we have the fact that Lily wouldn’t allow herself to like him because she thought he was Ashley’s (her now dead sister) and she still feels guilty for her death. I get the feeling guilty for her death bit but really why didn’t she just come out and ask Aidan casually whether he was ever involved with her sister.

The majority of the book takes place in the salon or Lily’s flat or up a mountain and the super speed that Aidan and Lily go from giving into their lust to saying “I love you” without a single proper date in between was warped.

The secondary characters introduced were a bit blah. Lily’s friend Jonathan didn’t win any points but I liked Aidan’s mother. As to his brothers and sisters? The two that have me most intrigued right now are Kenna and Jacob. So while I was disappointed with this book, I am definitely not done with this series.

PS. Also seriously how many haircuts/facials does a sexy firefighter really need?! Maybe it’s just me but the salon setting didn’t interest me at all.

Molly Lucky Harborjpg

Q & A with … @JillShalvis

Today I am delighted to be hosting a Q&A with Jill Shalvis in honour of her new release One In A Million, the final book in the much-loved Lucky Harbor series.

Q. How did you first get the idea for the Lucky Harbor series?

A. When I started this series about three estranged sisters who get stuck together running a beach resort, I decided I was out of my mind. I don’t have sisters. I have a brother, and we like each other just fine. Then at the dinner table that very night, my three teenage heathens started bickering and fighting, and I just stared at them in awe and wonder.
I had my fodder! “Keep fighting,” I told them — much to their utter shock, since I’ve spent the past fifteen years begging them to get along.
After that night, it was a piece of cake to write the sisters. So then all that I had left to do was find the three sexy guys who could handle them.
It just so happened that, at the time, my neighbor was having an addition put on her house. For six glorious weeks, there were a bunch of guys hanging off the roof and the walls, in perfect line of sight of my office.
Which is really my deck. It’s a wonder I got any work done at all.

Q. How do you decide what to name the characters in your book?JillShalvis

A. I collect good names as I hear them and keep them in a file. When I start a new book, I flip through the saved names until I find one that suits me at the time.

Q. If you had to choose just one, who is your favourite couple out of the 12 Lucky Harbor couples?

A. Definitely Sawyer and Chloe from HEAD OVER HEELS. Wait, no. It’s Josh and Grace from FOREVER AND A DAY. No, wait. It’s Ben and Aubrey from ONCE IN A LIFETIME. No wait!! It’s Callie and Tanner from ONE IN A MILLION… 🙂

Q. What’s your favourite trope to write?

A. reunited lovers! Or in Callie and Tanner’s case, a crush turned love. 🙂

Q. As your ‘Lucky Harbor’ series is now coming to an end, do you know what your next series will be about?

A. I do. 🙂

For Olivia Bentley, Lucky Harbor is more than the town where she runs her new vintage shop. It’s the place where folks are friendly to strangers-and nobody knows her real name. Olivia does a good job of keeping her past buried, not getting too cozy with anyone . . . until she sees a man drowning. Suddenly she’s rushing into the surf, getting up close and personal with the hottest guy she’s ever laid hands on.

Charter boat captain Cole Donovan has no problem with a gorgeous woman throwing her arms around his neck in an effort to “save” him. In fact, he’d like to spend a lot more time skin-to-skin with Olivia. He’s just not expecting that real trouble is about to come her way. Will it bring her deeper into Cole’s heart, or will it be the end of Olivia’s days in little Lucky Harbor?

“Dry off,” Cole said, and stepped back from Olivia.

She nodded but didn’t move.

“Olivia?” he asked.

Her face was a mask of misery. “Mmmy arms won’t wwwork.”

Shit. He quickly and gently pushed her back down to the bench, sat at her side, and began to pile blankets over the top of them both.

“Wwhat are you ddoing?”

“Sharing my body heat,” he said.

“I cccan’t feel any hhheat.”

“You will.” Beneath the blankets, he reached for the towel she still had wrapped around her. “Don’t freak,” he warned. “I’m just going to remove the wet towel and pull you into me.”

She opened her mouth, but using her sluggishness to his benefit, Cole quickly stripped the towel away from her, wrapping his arms around her, pulling her into him as two things happened simultaneously. One, she squeaked. Probably trying to formulate her next threat.

And two—holy shit—he realized she was completely, totally, one hundred percent naked beneath the layer of blankets.

And pissed. “Yyyour pants!” she gasped. “Thththey’re cccold!”

“Sorry, but I’m trying to do the right thing here,” he said through clenched teeth. Jesus. He couldn’t see a thing below her neck, but he could sure as hell feel her. His hands were on her hip and low on her back, respectively, not touching anything he shouldn’t be, but damn she was soft, and at the feel of her, his brain clicked off. Just completely flatlined.
