Flashpoint Season 2

The start of the season wasn’t amazing for me as the cases just didn’t get me as emotionally invested as all the ones in season one.

I missed Jules but liked Officer Sabine.  I kept thinking how the actress looked familiar but it wasn’t until I looked her up on imdb that I realised she was Paula Cassidy from NCIS!  I much preferred her to Leah.

Some standout episodes:

2×04 – Aisle Thirteen with the kid trying to save his friend in the shop
2×07 – Perfect Storm with the bullied kid trying to get revenge on his bullies
2×08 – Last Dance with the heartbreaking story of the girl that was dying and her boyfriend wanting to give her the perfect last evening and starring the actress who played Flack’s sister in CSI:NY!
2×09 – Exit Wounds with the guy trying to save his brother from gang members and playing cat and mouse in the hospital
2×10 – One Wrong Move …. oh god this episode! I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY KILLED LOU OFF!  Granted he was the character with the least characterisation but SERIOUSLY?!  Such an amazing episode for Lou and Spike.  When it started off, I wasn’t overly invested since there weren’t any perps to feel sympathetic to and then Lou stood on the landmine …..

I missed Sam/Jules together of course but understand why they broke up and I hear there are good things in store for them in the future!

Criminal Minds: 11×15 – A Badge And Gun

It’s very hard to get me excited about a Criminal Minds episode nowadays. It seems that the spark has gotten out of the show the past couple of seasons and there have been barely any cases which have kept me sitting at the edge of my seat.

Thankfully, courtesy of a piece of inspired guest-star casting and a cliffhanger ending, this episode was somewhat thrilling.

I haven’t seen Carmine Giovinazzo in anything since CSI:NY ended and in typical Criminal Minds fashion they made him into a really believable bad guy and erased all of the good cop Danny Messer about him.

Interesting setup of having him pretending to be law enforcement.  It’s scary how natural it would be to let someone in your house if you believed they were a cop.

As to the ending?  Wow, poor Derek.  I’ve heard rumours that Shemar might be leaving the show?  I hope not.  Anyway, I can’t wait to find out why the gang of men attacked him.  Usually with big character episodes like this, there is some sort of build-up and moments laying the groundwork but this time there’s been nothing.

*One of my favourite scenes of all time.

CSI:NY: 9×17 – Today Is Life

As a season finale it was moderate to poor, as a series finale it was poor and disappointing but as an episode it was …. okay. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why the writers went with this sort of finale rather than a high intense action-packed episode which usually ends with a cliffhanger, but I wish they hadn’t chosen this episode to have the focus on the perps + officer involved in the shooting etc. rather than spending the screen time on the CSI team, even if it was just seeing them in the lab processing evidence.

I thought it was melodramatic and whilst I felt for the poor girlfriend of the victim, I thought it would have been better if they had left it with the scenes between her and Mac in the precinct or if we heard the start of her speech to the mob outside and then it fade to mute. We are an intelligence audience, we don’t need her to spell it out to us that the officer was innocent and it was all a case of bad timing and bad luck.

Although I thought Mac’s voice-over was also too cheesy and unnecessary, I loved the scene with the gang on the rooftop and the acknowledgement of Sid’s cancer treatment, Danny/Lindsay snuggling etc. And finally the proposal was perfect and I’m happy for Mac.

CSI:NY: 9×13 – Nine Thirteen

Who stole Hawkes’ hair? Come on out and confess.

Jo/Hot Stalker. He was seriously hot. This was an okay storyline. It was better before we got to the ‘waking up from transplant surgery and seeing your sister’s face’ bit and then, even worse, when she asked to listen to his heart beat. A part of me wanted to throw up.  Still, as Jo storylines go, it was interesting and sweet.

EDNA again. Still waiting for someone to explain this thing to me!

The case was okay but nothing special. Not entirely sure why all the slow-motion was necessary when they arrested the perp at the bus terminal. And why would she make a shank in prison, smuggle it out and kill with it when she could have bought a knife as soon as she was out or make another shank on the outside?

Ah, Danny/Lindsay <3. This would have been so much better if I hadn’t known going in. However, from the very first Sid/Lindsay scene I would probably have started to have my suspicions.

Mac/Lindsay scene was hilarious! Mac made a bet with Christina?!?! Erm, not sure how I feel about that. It just doesn’t seem very Mac-like, especially before it was all out in the open.  What if Lindsay didn’t tell Danny the same day and somehow it all got back to Danny before she had a chance to tell him.

And the last scene! Hee. The Mac/Lindsay hug mirroring the time before. The look on Lindsay’s face “Was there a BET?!?!?!”. Anyway, I guess this sort of exorcises the demons from the first pregnancy a bit for me. This is how it should have always gone down, not the awfulness of the first time around.

CSI:NY: 9×08 – Late Admissions

Flashbacks!!! I loved them all! Seeing Lindsay as a teenager with her 3 friends <3 <3. I love the fact that they came back to this whole storyline after six seasons. Nice consistency and realistic that it would probably have taken that amount of time (if not more!) between the trial and the execution.

Ahhh Lucy is named after one of Lindsay’s friends who died!!!!

I loved that we got to see Lindsay’s father! We hardly ever get to see character’s parents in this show and I love that they explored Lindsay’s relationship with her father.

The scene where Lindsay watches Daniel get executed was so powerful.

And the end where Lindsay comes back to NY and Danny is waiting for her outside their home <3 <3 <3 <3 <3. And the fact that she held onto his back pocket as they walked up the stairs was the cutest thing ever!! This ship is worming its way back into my heart after FIVE freaking years and all because of Lindsay’s Montana storyline. The symbolism! The fact that this was the storyline that made them become canon!

As to the case, it was interesting and solid and a good counterpart to Lindsay’s personal storyline.

This show has made me speechless with its awesomeness this season. Seriously, I am beyond wowed.

CSI:NY: 9×07 – Clue: SI

Another great episode! Poor Lindsay! I loved the whole idea of lab pranks and I loved her reaction to the whole thing and everyone’s reaction to her wearing the sunglasses. Great consistency when she was using EDNA (again, someone tell me how this damn thing works?! No way does it have a sample of every known material in the world. This really bugs me!!!!) and she checked the microscope before she used it.

I love Danny/Lindsay walking through the zoo together and Lindsay demanding to see Danny’s badge, not convinced that he didn’t pull the prank. And the snow leopard!!!!

And Danny showing up with flowers to take Lindsay to dinner because he was the guilty party wanting to prank Adam! Loved that moment between the two of them.

Mac/Christina – loving their relationship more and more. Sweet ending.

Then the case itself was really good. Clever idea using Clue as a basis for planning the murders and the misdirects with the mugger and then the doctor being suspects. Also liked that the nature of the murder took the CSIs to different locations in New York.

Perfect episode alert!!!!!!

CSI:NY: 9×04 – Unspoken

Just go right on and surprise me, show!  This was one of the best episodes we’ve had in 4 (?!) seasons without a doubt.

An epic 30 minutes of the show with no dialogue, just Green Day songs playing. The no dialogue really really worked.

Lindsay being hospitalised!

Seeing Lucy that grown up freaks me out because I can’t believe we’re in Season 9. My fandom head is still in about Season 6 or something.

That poor innocent kid/Flack trying to save her <3 <3 <3.

The various flashbacks.

The tension with the killer in Lindsay’s hospital room.

Aaaand the senator guy played by Neal McDonough starred with Anna Belknap in Medical Investigation. FANDOMS COLLIDE! Shame they didn’t share a scene.

Danny called Lindsay “Montana!”

Kid/Flack hug!

Wow, this episode held my attention all the way through. I’ve always said that the most powerful CSI:NY episodes are the ones where a part of you feels a bit sorry for the perp and in this case I did feel sorry for him. Obviously trying to kill the woman at a public event was completely the wrong call but he wins points for actually caring about children, being a good teacher and changing his mind about hurting Lindsay and you could tell he was heartbroken about the innocent girl’s death.

CSI:NY: 8×18 – Near Death

I found the scene between Mac and Claire in the empty lab corridor really really melodramatic. Melodrama has its place – in Grey’s Anatomy, not in a procedural crime drama. In fact the whole episode was just …. I don’t know, trying too hard?

I mean I liked the structure with the flashforwards and backwards in time and Mac having a “ghost” scene with each character but overall it was just too cheesy for this sort of show to work.  But once I got over that then ….

Favourite parts:

– Flack mentioning Mac saving his life! ‘Charge Of This Post’ – Still one of my favourite episodes of the show.

– Flack mentioning the fact that he didn’t get to tell Jess that she loved her before she died and his conversation with Mac about this – HUGE CHEERS FOR THIS!  Flack still misses her!  Bless, I actually would have thought he would have moved on by now. Favourite moment of the season right here.

– Everything that came out of Flack’s mouth during this episode.

– Christine/Jo banter about Mac’s middle name.

– Mac and Hawkes mentioning Camille.

– Lindsay/ginger cat.

– The school bus yard. Lindsay firing her gun!

– Mac/Lucy/Lindsay/Danny <3 <3 <3 <3.

– The final scene with Claire. Yes, I was finally moved.

– The final group scene with Mac’s return.

Next season I do not want Adam out of the lab full time. No, no, no, don’t make him a CSI. I will cry. He is the only character in this show that I’ve never been able to think about growing to like. Don’t give him more screentime.

Anyway, this would have been the perfect series finale. In fact I’m sad that it’s not going to be because they can’t top this creatively and logic dictates that if they know that next season’s finale is going to be the series finale, they’re going to lay on more melodrama ….. Hee, I just read what I wrote about last season’s finale: I actually, honestly, believe that this works perfectly as a series finale. I mean it was sort of understated rather than an all-out guns blazing like the previous episode but it was nice. Like with the Brothers & Sisters finale (and I can’t believe I’m comparing these shows), everything is tied up but gives you the idea of what will happen in the future – Mac possibly leaving, changes for the Messer family etc.

CSI:NY may well win the prize for the most false-series finales before the end.

CSI:NY: 8×14 – Flash Pop

I loved this episode! Yes, really.

The fact that Spencer Grammer and Aaron Hill both from Greek guest-starred helped (even if that meant I went into the episode thinking that one of them had to be the murderer, and probably Spencer) but the whole episode was fantastic.

I loved the way they flashed back and forth from the present day crime scene to the 1950s crime scene, ditto the autopsies.

Loved Lindsay mentioning Montana.

Loved the way they filmed Flack conducting the interviews with the other lab techs and asking each member of the team about Harland. The whole episode was filmed really beautifully actually.

I’ve never had any feelings about Mac’s latest lady friend until this episode but I think I like her.

The scene where Mac and Jo watches the lab techs mourning with the flowers and candles <3……. What I didn’t like was the scene after with Jo being mushy in a high, squeaky voice afterwards.

It was really weird for me to see Casey Cartwright as a cold-blooded killer! Kind of scary. Sad that she and “Beaver” didn’t share more scenes together. Love this interview with the two of them. Greek reuinion FTW!
